In November last year, the Miss Tourism Ghana UK (MTGUK) pageant was launched by the Hon Minister of Tourism, Ghana (Akua Senya Densua) at the UKCCA in Luton. Miss Delia Wigham was nominated to be princess for the launch year. What would have come across to many as just another pageant, is evolving to be a pageant of choice for many young, intelligent and confident ladies with Ghanaian heritage.
On 17th July 2012, Ghana Society UK, the rights owners of the MTGUK pageant had a press launch to officially start the search season for the maiden princess of MTGUK who would serve and act as Ghana’s tourism ambassador in the UK. Post press launch evaluation the Ghana Society UK team has indicated that the media in attendance was thrilled at the novel approach to generating buzz and publicity for MTGUK.
What makes MTGUK stand out from the rest is that in addition to giving contestants the opportunity to learn and know more about Ghana, through its mentoring scheme, it also will open doors in the ever developing and lucrative tourism industry locally and internationally.
This is an opportunity that young ladies in the UK who have Ghanaian lineage should take advantage. As Miss Wigham’s reign gradually draws to a close, she definitely would cherish her time as the nominated princess for 2011. If we go by MTGUK/MissWigham’s facebook postings, it becomes obvious that being the nominated princess has been worth every single moment.
Ghana Society UK and their partners are determined to build on the gains and experiences of the first year of MTGUK. The registration process is already underway and will close on the 8th of September, 2012, and the live auditions start straight away. Interested ladies can download application forms and further information about the pageant from the MTGUK site.
MTGUK pageant is dubbed as a pageant of difference, and I believe that young ladies out there can’t wait to be the ones to make that difference. The time then to act is now, without any further delay. Stand by as I bring you more updates on this year’s MTGUK pageant.
